How do I qualify for the 5% long term capital gain rate?
Q. I am trying to do some tax planning prior to selling a stock I have held for a long time (over 5 years). From my understanding, long term capital gains are taxed at 15% rate unless your taxable income would otherwise put you into a lower tax bracket, in which the long term rate is then 5%. Is the gain from the sale of the tax part of the taxable income? I have a very small annual income of about $20,000, but when I sell the stock, I will have a gain of about $500,000. Will it be taxed at 15% rate or due to my low income, will it be taxed at 5%? And if I wait until 2008 (maybe 2009) will it be taxed at 0%? The tax laws are very confusing in this area. Please help me out.

A. Your long term capital gains rate will be 5% if your overall bracket would be 15% or less if the break didn't exist for the LTCG. To figure that, you would include the capital gains amount - their rate then drops to figure your actual tax. With half a million in capital gains, your rate would be WAY over 15% so your LTCG rate would be 15%. With that much in capital gains, there's nothing you are going to do to bring your rate down much, no matter how much other income you do or don't have, unless you spread the stock sales over maybe 10 or 15 years, and by that time it's hard to tell if the LTCG rate tax break would still exist - depends on what congress does.

A. 1. - use cloth re-usable produce bags when buying fruits and vegetables. I've seen them for sale at farmers markets and craft shows made from a washable translucent fabric and has a drawstring, or you could make your own if you sew. 2. I buy my deli meats like ham etc. at the deli counter and they wrap it in paper instead of plastic, Paper bio-degrades much better than plastic and if it is clean, it can be put with the mixed paper recycling 3. Also when you buy meat at the butcher shop, it is wrapped in paper instead of those styrofoam trays and plastic wrap, also keep requesting this at your grocery store. The styrofoam trays cannot be recycled. 4. buying larger quantities helps, for instance a large bag of pasta uses less packaging… [cont.]

How similiar are 4 string and 5 string bass guitars when learning?
Q. I recently got a 5 string bass guitar and was planning on teaching myself until next year. However, I have found that most of the online lessons are for four strings. Is there must difference in the method? If so what are the main differences and is it ok to learn from one of the 4 string lessons on a 5 string? A. The difference in the method is that you've got two or three more low notes per scale. Just learn what they are, per key. Map out the notes on paper, then memorize that graph. Sublimate the repeating patterns that make up "musical structure."

How does 5.1 channel sound is transmitted through a single optical cable or a coaxial cable?

A. There is a thing called a "Codec" and Dolby labs came up with one called "AC3". It takes 6 channels of audio analog sound, compresses each channel and puts it into a single stream of data that can be pulled apart and decoded at the other end back into 6 channels. It was fairly high-quality and Dolby tried to make money selling it on professional quality sound cards for production studios. But the MPEG specifications did similar work and was public domain so it was a lot cheaper. ($125/card license fee to Dolby). So people started flocking to Mpeg instead of AC3. A. Shes Not a doll. You buy the clothes, so I have to assume what you buy is what you want her to wear. let her choose. Food is another thing. That's about tough love i think. The kids that get to choose their meals are typical the ones with obesity issues. I mean, what kid wouldn't want Chicken McNuggets and french fries everyday. I was always told that "this restaurant has one item on the menu - you can have this, or starve" And even though I didn't care for some thing much - I never starved. If you stop giving choices, i think she'll eventually stop fighting u about it. Dinner is dinner.
